Geometry gives structure. Colour brings tension.
Presence in Space
AGNIESZKA CYRANKA-PYTLIK
I create paintings and photographs based on structure, rhythm and the tension of space.
In painting, I use colour as a signal — it defines the weight, direction and focal point of the image. I am interested in closed compositions, the contrast of fields and the trace of material.
In black-and-white photography, I look for architecture, light and unexpected cuts through space. Photography is a way for me to observe arrangements that return in painting as rhythm, form or tension.
I understand an image as a presence in space — an element that changes the rhythm of a place.
